My Story

My passion for parenting and helping parents started when I first laid eyes on my feisty, intelligent, head strong first-born child.  She literally was placed on the weighing bed, grabbed the side of it and refused to let go for the nurses to weigh her at birth.   Things did not start off easy for her or me as a new mom.  Born with a blood disorder that created the symptoms of failure to thrive, she was misdiagnosed, creating unnecessary stress and concern on me as a new breastfeeding mom.  This began my road of learning to be an advocate, to have patience, compassion, to be open to learning from my child, to have curiosity, and creative-problem solving.

Not too long after her birth, I got certified as an educated volunteer to help breastfeeding moms which led to my  certification to become a paid teacher for parents in classroom settings.  My passion to help parents was only beginning to bloom.  2 years after my daughter was born, I had son, who was diagnosed with autism.  This fed my obsession to learn everything about parenting through positive and authoritative parenting.  Especially learning better ways to communicate with an autistic child.

When the twins were born, they were 3 months early and had to stay in the NICU for 120 days.  I had a 3-, 5- and 7-year-old at home.  I had to quit working completely, and being self-employed, I was not prepared for this kind of a rainy day.  We went through financial, emotional, and medical hardship for the next 3 years, I had to give up my business and put my full attention to the twins, as well as care for my 3 young children.   We nearly lost everything we owned and had medically fragile children that we worried about constantly.

With a new appreciation for parenting through my own stress and humility and learning the extreme value of self-care and true grace, we made it through. Just in time to start the preteen – teenage years!

No one really explains how, your angel child will one day go to sleep and wake up as a little devil who will hate you and challenge every ounce of your patience.  That’s a teenager’s job after all, and my oldest was right on target!   She would not do what I asked her to do, she talked back, she rolled her eyes, she ignored me, and everything I said made her resent me and avoid me as much as she could.  I was at a total loss!  We would begin and end each day butting heads, with me losing my temper and ending up losing my cool and yelling at her!  All the certification, all the books, all the training I had, and here I was stumped again!

My other kids were experiencing my breakdowns and I was destroying any relationship I had built with my kids. To say I was a stressed-out hot mess of a mama, would be, being nice.  It was a LOT.

Fast forward to today; I have learned so much about parenting, boys and girls, twins and individuals and even special needs and special situations.  Helping each child grow from toddler to teenager as their own true self, into finding their own journey into a well-rounded, connected and caring adult. I have learned how to live the mindful parent lifestyle, meet my needs, my kid’s needs, to be a positive, better connected, and present as a parent.  I have trust and respect in my relationship with kids, and I am fully confident my kids are prepared to leave our home and thrive on their own.   I am impassioned to help parents who want the same for their own lives.

The time you have with your children under your roof is far too short, and each day is a chance to make a change for the better and to strengthen your life long bond.  My mission is to help you create that healthy relationship with your kids, while balancing your own needs, wants and life goals.   You are raising a future generation that will change the world for the better.

Mom's I want to tell you,
You ARE Strong!

When I found out my 2nd child was on the Autism Spectrum, not only was I learning to cope and adjust to the realization of his diagnosis, but when trying to advocate for him in school, I was asked by a special needs psychology educator, if I knew what Autism was. She truly had no idea there were degrees of the spectrum. At the time, schools did not recognize that high functioning kids need help in areas of development.  They were only familiar with kids needing help to do their school work. Being the mama bear I am, to help my son get what he needed in school, I completed my own certification as an ASD support person.   I was inspired by an advocate I had hired to, help me, to get the school to provide the necessary benefits for my son to continue to grow and thrive in life and in school.

Don’t think that there’s a different, better child ‘hiding’ behind the autism.   This is your child. Love the child in front of you. Encourage his strengths, celebrate his quirks, and improve his weaknesses, the way you would with any child.

My Treasures!

This is one of my absolute favorite pictures ever!

Strong-willed children often grow into strong-willed adults who become world leaders, world shapers, and world changers. Parenting them peacefully is not only possible, it’s imperative because sowing peace in their hearts now while they’re in our care will grow a future of peace later when the world is in their care.
